Buying a new pump and filter for your above-ground pool can be a daunting task. Where do you even begin? This video will explain the pump and filter sizes needed for your above-ground pool. Whether your pool is round or oval, this video will explain what to look for when making your purchase. This will help you choose the right filtration system for your above-ground pool.

What size pool filter should I use for my above-ground pool?
When choosing a pool filter for your above-ground pool, remember this helpful rule of thumb:
Sand filters: At least 1 square foot of filter area per 10,000 gallons of pool water
Cartridge filters: At least 100 square feet of filter area per 10,000 gallons of pool water
In this case, a little bigger is okay.
What size pump should I use for my above-ground pool?
No matter what size pump you choose for your above-ground pool, one of the most important considerations is ensuring it doesn't overload the pool filter. If you choose a matching filter and pump system, you won't have to worry about compatibility, as that work has already been done for you!
Round Above-Ground Pools:
For round pools up to 24 feet in diameter, use a 1 horsepower pool pump.
For round pools larger than 24 feet in diameter, we recommend a 1.5 horsepower pool pump.
Oval Above-Ground Pools:
For oval pools up to 15 x 30 feet, use a 1 horsepower pool pump.
For oval pools larger than 15 x 30 feet, we recommend a 1.5 horsepower pool pump.
