Why can fiber balls filter oil from water?

Fiberballs are small hairballs made of fiber filaments. Fiber filaments are made of chemical fibers. The main characteristics of filaments are lipophilicity and hydrophobicity. Fiber balls, due to their high density, can trap oil in water during filtration, just like regular and particulate filter materials. However, conventional particulate filter media cannot intercept oily soils with lower densities due to their lower density. Since the density of the fiber ball is much greater than that of the oil molecules, it can effectively intercept the oil in the water.

At the beginning, the fiber ball was only born to filter the oil in the water without considering its service life, so the service life of the fiber ball is usually within 2 years. Since the initial fiber filaments are lipophilic and hydrophobic, when the fiber ball filter is backwashing the fiber ball, the oil stains attached to the surface of the fiber ball are not easy to clean, and the service life of the fiber ball will be shortened. Later, after the response of various customers, we asked the fiber manufacturer to improve the fiber yarn so that the characteristics of the fiber yarn were changed from lipophilic and hydrophobic to hydrophilic and oleophobic, thus greatly improving the fiber. The longevity of the balls can wash off the oil on the surface of the fiber balls during the backwashing process. Extend the service life of fiber balls.

Due to the high density of fiber filaments and the small mesopores of fiber balls, the fiber ball filter adopts the method of pressure filtration, and the oil removal rate reaches 98.9%, which meets the drainage standard. Introducing these, everyone knows why fiber balls can filter oil from water! Let me give a simple example: everyone has a car, but when there is a problem with the car, everyone has to fix the car. When your car is being serviced for the first time, the oil in the engine will be wiped with toilet paper to clean the surfaces. I can clearly see the problem with the engine, but toilet paper breaks easily and sometimes sticks to the engine, making it difficult to clean. Later, the auto repair shop bought cotton linen cloth, which can not only wipe the oil from the engine, but also can not leave any traces, but the oil stains on the cotton linen cloth are more difficult to clean. This piece of cotton and linen is equivalent to not being used. Fiber products have lipophilic and hydrophobic effects. The motherboard also strongly wipes the engine surface when it is wiped so that it can be wiped clean, just like our fiber balls are in the filter. Due to its lipophilicity, this is a compression filtration method that compresses fiber balls together. With hydrophobic properties, water will run off, but oil stains will be absorbed by the fiber balls. From the initial oil stain adsorption to the subsequent oil stain interception, and later improved fiber balls, they adhere to the surface of the fiber balls, but the washing capacity is limited. To wash away these oil stains, prolong the service life and reduce the cost of use.
