Introduction of Polyacrylamide (PAM)

The polyacrylamide (PAM) can be divided into four types, they are anionic PAM, cationic PAM, nonionic andamphoteric PAM. The following are their detailed introduction and specifications. 

 

 Anionic Polyacrylamide (APAM)

The molecular weight of anionic polymer flocculant is usually higher than that of cationic polymer or nonionicpolymer, and its clarifying properties are mainly obtained by neutralization of charges. lts function is mainly toflocculate negatively charged colloids, with functions such as turbidity removal and decolorization, and issuitable for water treatment with high organic colloid content.

APAM anionic polyacrylamide can be widely used in waste water treatment of chemical industry, municipalsewage treatment, such as coal washing, mineral processing, metallurgy, iron and steel industry andelectronic industry. Anionic polymers are used in the petroleum industry for enhanced oil recovery. In addition,it can also be used as papermaking auxiliary agent and textile pulping agent.

Cationic Polyacrylamide (CPAM)

Cationic polyacrylamide is a linear high molecular polymer which is copolymerized by cationic monomer andacrylamide in different proportions by advanced polymerization technology. The cationic polymer has thecharacteristics of fast dissolution rate, narrow molecular weight distribution and small dosage.

CPAM is very eficient in usage and has high dehydration rate. Cationic polymer is used for the waste watertreatment in alcohol factory, monosodium glutamate factory, sugar factory, beverage factory, tanneries, dyeingand other fields. It has a better effect to be used together with inorganic coagulant in particular. Besides,cationic polyacrylamide can be used as paper additives as well.

Nonionic Polyacrylamide (NPAM)

Nonionic polyacrylamide is a very effective flocculant and can be used for various types of sewage treatmentts characteristics are: its flocculation performance is less affected by the pH value of wastewater and saltsand the flocculation strength is higher than that of anionic flocculants, especially in the treatment of acidicwastewater. the effect is better than that of anionic PAM. In addition, in the treatment of oily sewage in oilfields, it is usually used in combination with inorganic flocculants.

Amphoteric polyacrylamide

Amphoteric polyacrylamide is obtained by hydrolysis and copolymerization of vinyl amide and vinyl cationicmonomer acrylamide monomer. But it is not a mixture of anionic and cationic types. lf cationic polyacrylamideis used in combination with anionic polyacrylamide, the reaction wil cause precipitation. Therefore, amphotericPAM is an ideal product.

The amphoteric PAM molecules contain cationic groups and anionic groups, and have the characteristics ofgeneral cationic flocculants, so it will show more excellent performance. This flocculant can be used in a wideange of pH value. has high water filtration capacity and low moisture content of filter cake. and can also beused for strong acid leaching of ores or recovery of valuable metals in metal-containing acid catalysts.
